McConnell: ‘Year of extraordinary accomplishment’ for Trump
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday praised President Trump during a speech at the White House, as Republicans declared victory in their push to overhaul the tax code.
“But this has been a year of extraordinary accomplishment for the Trump administration,” McConnell said on the White House lawn, flanked by other congressional Republicans.
McConnell specifically lauded Trump for the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and other nominees to the circuit court.
{mosads}“You’ve ended the over-regulation of the American economy. And that, coupled with what we did last night and what the House finished this morning, means America is going to start growing again.”
The Senate leader’s praise for the president comes after the House and the Senate passed a tax-reform bill, providing Republicans with a major legislative victory before the Christmas holiday.
Trump had congratulated McConnell after the upper chamber passed the bill early Wednesday morning.
“I would like to congratulate @SenateMajLdr on having done a fantastic job both strategically & politically on the passing in the Senate of the MASSIVE TAX CUT & Reform Bill,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“I could have not asked for a better or more talented partner. Our team will go onto many more VICTORIES!” the president added.

It is a stark turnaround for the president and the Senate majority leader.
In August, Trump blasted McConnell after he couldn’t get the votes to pass a bill repealing and replacing ObamaCare.
“The only problem I have with Mitch McConnell is that, after hearing Repeal & Replace for 7 years, he failed! That should NEVER have happened!” Trump tweeted at the time.
