The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing this month to look into the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the panel, said the March 14 hearing will be on the “shooting and school safety.”
“This committee has an important oversight role to play. The great tragedy of the Parkland shooting is that it was preventable,” he said during a committee meeting Thursday.

In a likely preview of what will be at least part of the focus of the hearing, Grassley added: “The FBI and local law enforcement failed to act on credible tips that should have neutralized the killer and gotten him help.”
Grassley did not say who will testify before the committee about the shooting that left 17 people dead.
But he noted that the FBI and social media companies are talking to committee staff about “their response to the shooter’s behavior.”
The FBI has acknowledged it mishandled warnings about the suspected shooter, Nikolas Cruz.
The hearing announcement comes a day after a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Grassley, met with Trump at the White House, where he urged them to pass new legislation.
