GOP senator: If Trump colluded with Russia the world would already know

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) pushed back against former CIA Director John Brennan’s claims that there is evidence of President Trump colluding with Russia during the 2016 election, saying if there was such evidence “the entire world would already know.”

“If there is a scintilla of evidence that the president colluded with the Russians and Brennan had that evidence, the entire world would already know,” Scott told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto on Saturday.

Brennan, who had his security clearance revoked by Trump his past week, wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times on Thursday that Trump’s “claims of no collusion are, in a word, hogwash.”

The former CIA director’s argument centered around Trump’s public statements and media reports on the ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

“So the fact of the matter is, a part of what he said in his op-ed is that the president’s public comments suggest collusion,” Scott said on Saturday. “I think that’s ridiculous.”

The president has repeatedly insisted that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

Trump has repeatedly attacked special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe as biased, “rigged” and a “witch hunt,” demanding that it be shut down.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported Saturday that White House counsel Don McGahn has been cooperating with Mueller’s probe and has spent about 30 hours interviewing with the special counsel’s team.
