Sununu: Ford was ‘victim’ of Democratic Party

Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R) on Monday accused Democrats of “having used and abused” Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault during his nomination process. 

Sununu also said the party had made a victim of the woman who publicly testified that Kavanaugh had tried to rape her when the two were in high school.

{mosads}”Contrary to the way people are talking about it in the liberal media, the Democrats are going to pay the price for having used and abused Dr. Ford in the process,” Sununu said on “Fox News,” where he frequently appears.

“As even part of their base steps back and looks at what happened, they’re going to see that Dr. Ford was a victim of the Democratic Party in this process,” he added. 

He blamed the Democrats for releasing Ford’s anonymous letter to Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), saying Ford’s identity was “revealed when she did not want her name out there.”

Feinstein has denied releasing Ford’s letter.  

“Republicans treated her respectfully, even getting a professional questioning so she would not feel uncomfortable,” he added, referring to the outside counsel Republicans hired to handle Ford’s questioning during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Sununu said Kavanaugh’s emotional and aggressive testimony during the hearing at the end of September was a response to “the abusive tactics of the Democrats on the committee.” 

Ford during her testimony accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her during a party in 1982, a claim that he categorically denied. 

Multiple Republican leaders have said they believe that Ford was attacked but do not believe Kavanaugh was her assailant, a claim that her lawyers have denounced. 

“She testified she knew him, he knew her, and she knows exactly who sexually assaulted her on that day,” Ford’s lawyer Lisa Banks said on NBC.

Ford cannot move back to her home due to the volume of death threats she is still receiving, her lawyers told NBC on Sunday.
