Tim Kaine: Trump was ‘fact-checked to his face’ by Pelosi, Schumer
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on Wednesday praised Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) for their handling of a contentious Oval Office meeting with President Trump the previous day.
“I think what you saw was the president being fact-checked to his face by strong Democratic leaders, which Republican leaders haven’t been willing to do,” Kaine said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day.”
“When he’s making up lies about this or that, he had Nancy Pelosi look him in the eye and say, ‘You said this was going to be a private meeting. Why don’t we talk privately and settle this?’ But the president decided he was going to play a trick on him and make it public, so they fact-checked him to his face,” Kaine added.

Pelosi and Schumer met Tuesday with Trump inside the Oval Office, where the president and the Democratic leaders clashed over a government funding bill in front of cameras.{mosads}
Pelosi challenged Trump during the meeting, telling him that he didn’t have the votes he needed in the House to get funding for his proposed wall along the southern border.
Trump, who maintained that he did have the necessary votes in the House, at one point threatened to shut down the government if he couldn’t get funding for the wall.
Kaine on Wednesday said the meeting showed that Trump is “not going to have enablers in Congress” once Democrats take control of the House next month.
“They’re going to have people who are going demand he act like an adult because we’re sure going do our job as the Article I branch to try to govern, whether or not he is acting responsibly,” Kaine added.
