Clinton commemorates Equal Pay Day: ‘A good day to call your senators’
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commemorated Equal Pay Day on Twitter, saying it was a “good day to call your senators.”
“Today is #EqualPayDay, marking how far into 2019 women have to work to match men’s earnings from 2018,” she wrote. “It’s a good day to call your senators and ask them to support the Paycheck Fairness Act.”

{mosads} On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the Paycheck Fairness Act, which seeks to address pay inequity between men and women. The bill passed along largely partisan lines, indicating that it is likely to face significant hurdles in the Republican-controlled Senate.
The Paycheck Fairness Act would prevent employers from asking about job applicants’ salaries and prohibit retaliation against employees who compare their pay.
Clinton, who lost the 2016 presidential election to President Trump, has been outspoken on issues of gender equality. She made women’s rights a large part of her 2016 campaign and was the first woman to receive the nomination of a major political party.
