McConnell recovering at home after fracturing shoulder

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is recovering at home after fracturing his shoulder, his office said Sunday.

McConnell injured himself after tripping at home on his patio, according to a statement from McConnell spokesman David Popp.{mosads}

“He has been treated, released, and is working from home in Louisville,” Popp said in the statement.

McConnell contacted Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) to “express his deepest sympathies for the people of El Paso and Dayton and discuss the senseless tragedies of this weekend,” the statement said.

The two shootings in less than 24 hours killed a combined total of at least 29 people and injured dozens more.

Democrats have publicly asked McConnell to call for an immediate special Senate session to vote on a universal background check bill passed by the House in February.

A McConnell spokesperson did not respond to The Hill’s request for comment regarding the calls for a special session.
