Senate Democrat: Time to have Biden’s back

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D), who represents the key swing state of Nevada, on Monday urged her colleagues and fellow Democrats to rally behind President Biden despite growing calls within the party for him to abandon his reelection bid.

“Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination in a landslide because he fights for working people in this country,” Cortez Masto said in a statement posted on the social platform X.

“He’s always had Nevadans’ backs, whether it’s on the picket lines, protecting our personal freedoms, or lowering costs — now it’s time for us to have his,” she said.

Cortez Masto’s statement is one of the strongest expressions of support from the Senate for Biden.

She joined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who have also declared their support for Biden staying in the race.

“I’m with Joe Biden,” Schumer told reporters in Syracuse last week.

The Democratic leader highlighted their shared accomplishments, and he declared “we’ve delivered a lot for America and for Central New York.”

Fetterman has called out the “vultures” in the Democratic Party who have turned against Biden.

“I refuse to join the Democratic vultures on Biden’s shoulder after the debate. No one knows more than me that a rough debate is not the sum total of the person and their record,” Fetterman posted on X after Biden’s disastrous debate against former President Trump.
