McConnell says secretary for the majority to retire from Senate

“She is a keen strategist who always thinks several steps ahead. She has not just been one of my own closest advisers, but a key resource to our entire majority and a central part of its many accomplishments.”

In the Senate, both the majority and minority parties elect a secretary. As secretary for the majority, Dove managed the Republican Cloakroom, facilitated communication between the two leaders, worked out the floor schedule, provided guidance to GOP senators and more.

“Senators and staff on both sides of the aisle will miss Laura a lot and I will be foremost among them,” McConnell added.

Dove began her career in the Senate as a page and then worked in the Republican Cloakroom as an assistant under Senate Republican Leader Bob Dole (Kan.).

Robert Duncan, the assistant Republican secretary, will succeed Dove as the next secretary for the majority.
