Sen. John Cornyn (R) is projected to have beaten back a competitive challenge from Democrat MJ Hegar in Texas, retaining the Senate seat he’s held since 2002.
NBC News and ABC News both called the race for Cornyn on Tuesday night.
Cornyn was able to outlast Hegar despite the sizable blue wave that hit the Lone Star State this cycle.
Texas hasn’t had a Democratic senator since the early 1990s.
The Cook Political Report had labeled the race as “lean Republican.”
