Klobuchar announces she’s cancer-free

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Wednesday that she is cancer-free, after disclosing earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.

“Good news to share: I got my results back from my first 6-month post-cancer exam & everything was clear. I’m so grateful to be healthy and thankful for my family, friends, and the incredible doctors and nurses who have helped me,” Klobuchar tweeted.

“And don’t forget– schedule that mammogram today!” she added.

Klobuchar, who chairs the Senate Rules Committee, announced her diagnosis in early September, writing in a Medium post that she had successfully completed a course of radiation treatment. 

The senator wrote in the Medium post that after radiation treatments in May “and after additional follow-up visits, it was determined in August that the treatment went well.” 

“Of course this has been scary at times, since cancer is the word all of us fear, but at this point my doctors believe that my chances of developing cancer again are no greater than the average person,” she added.
