Lautenberg treated for ulcer, expected to have a quick recovery
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) was treated for a bleeding ulcer and is
expected to return to work “soon,” according to a spokesman.
The 86-year-old senator was hospitalized late Monday after falling at his home.
{mosads}Lautenberg underwent an endoscopy procedure early Tuesday to treat the ulcer.
“Early this morning doctors diagnosed Sen. Lautenberg with a
bleeding ulcer, and he underwent a successful endoscopy procedure to
treat it,” spokesman Caley Gray said. “After becoming lightheaded and
taking a fall as a result of the condition, the senator sought medical
attention last night.”
Gray added that Lautenberg is “expected to make a full recovery and will be back to work soon.”
The Senate is on recess this week for the Presidents Day holiday.
Only Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), who is 92, is an older member of the Senate.
Lautenberg first served in the Senate from 1983 to 1995. He ran again for the Senate successfully in 2002.
