Virginia Gov to white nationalists: ‘We are stronger than you’

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) ripped white supremacists who sparked violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, saying there is no place for them in the country.

“I have a message to all of the white supremacists and the Nazis who came into Charlottesville today. Our message is plain and simple. Go home. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you. You pretend that you’re patriots, but you are anything but a patriot,” McAuliffe said at a press conference.

“My message is clear. We are stronger than you. You will not succeed. There is no place for you here, there is no place for you in America,” he continued.

The governor went on to call for toned-down rhetoric across the country.

{mosads}”The hatred and rhetoric that has gone on and has intensified over the past couple of months is dividing this great nation. We need to work together. I told the president that twice, we’re willing to work with you if we can work together to bring people together,” McAuliffe said.

The governor’s comments came after violent clashes engulfed the small college town after a white nationalist rally.

One counter-protester was killed and dozens were injured during the violent events.

President Trump condemned the violence at a press conference earlier, but he appeared to blame “many sides” and did not mention white supremacy by its name.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides,” Trump said at a press conference.

“It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. This has been going on for a long, long time,” he said.
