Rapper T.I. on Cynthia Nixon: I have no idea who she is but she has my vote
Rapper T.I. has thrown his weight behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon after hearing her comments on legalizing marijuana.
“I have no idea who this brilliant lady is,” T.I. tweeted on Monday. “But she’s invited to my next bbq/family gathering and if she’s running for anything…ANYTHING I SAY..She’s got my vote!!!”
He posted a video along with his comment of Nixon discussing legalizing marijuana.
“There are a lot of reasons to do it, but first and foremost, because it’s a racial justice issue,” Nixon says in the video.
“Because people across all ethnic and racial lines use marijuana at roughly the same rates,” she explained. “But the arrests for marijuana are 80 percent black or Latino.”
She added, “And what I would say is that effectively marijuana in New York state has been legal for white people for a long time, and it’s time to make it legal for everyone else.”
Nixon’s message apparently resonated with the rapper, who wrote, “Right on to the Righteous Decent White People out there, using their privilege to make a difference!!!#USorELSE”

A self-declared democratic socialist, Nixon is facing down Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) in New York’s Democratic primary election for governor on Thursday.
Polls show Cuomo leading Nixon by a wide margin. A Siena College poll on Monday found that he held a 41-point advantage over Nixon.
Whichever candidate emerges victorious from the primary is expected to sweep the gubernatorial election this fall.
