Ohio governor signs bill requiring students to learn cursive

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) signed into law a bill that requires students to be able to write legibly in cursive by the end of fifth grade.

Kasich signed the measure on Wednesday, according to a local Fox station.

Students in the state will now be required to write legibly in print by the end of third grade and in cursive by the end of fifth grade.

{mosads}The Ohio Department of Education is expected to craft a new curriculum for students that incorporates supplemental materials in cursive handwriting before the start of the next school year.

The legislation was introduced in February 2017 and approved by the Ohio House of Representatives in June of this year. The state Senate passed the measure this month.
