Massachusetts mayor uses website to attack local reporter as ‘fake news’ as he faces criminal charges

Massachusetts mayor Jasiel Correia II (D) is using a website he created to attack a local reporter as “fake news.”

The Herald News publicly backed its reporter Jo Goode Friday after the Fall River mayor responded to a tweet from the reporter with a link to jogoode.com which displays a GIF of President Trump saying “you are fake news.”

Goode had tweeted that Mark Wahlberg and HBO were making a series on Correia.

“Confirmed!” Goode wrote. “Mark Wahlberg and HBO are doing a series on our own MayorJFC! Thanks Jasiel for keeping us on the media map.”

Correia responded with the site.

Correia used the response when Goode posted a question on Twitter on Nov. 24 asking if Correia was moving from his apartment.

“It just is what it is,” Correia told the Herald when asked about the site. “Jo reports fake news and I stand by it.”

When asked to remove the site, Correia said he would “until I see another story from Jo Goode that I think is fake news.”

The site is still up.

Correia is facing nine counts of wire fraud and four counts of filing false tax returns related to his app SnoOwl. 

The Fall River City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to alert Correia that if he does not resign in five days he will face a recall election.
