Embattled Dem Alabama lawmaker makes more controversial remarks
A Democratic state lawmaker in Alabama is facing new controversy Thursday night after he referred to the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., with a slur for developmentally disabled people.
State Rep. John Rogers (D) told reporters on Thursday that there was “something wrong” with Trump Jr. after the latter rebuked him on social media for previous comments Rogers made about abortion that conservatives had widely criticized.
{mosads}“He’s evidently retarded. Uh, crazy,” Rogers said, according to AL.com. “Donald Trump’s son, I know there’s something wrong with that boy.”
His remarks were quickly condemned by the state’s junior senator, Doug Jones (D), who called Rogers’s remarks “reprehensible.”
“The rhetoric of Rep. John Rogers gets more appalling each time he speaks. He does not speak for the people of Alabama and is in fact offending all Alabamians with his crude and reprehensible comments,” Jones tweeted, linking to a video of Rogers’ remarks.

Trump Jr. responded to Rogers’s remarks in a statement from his spokesman to The Hill, calling such remarks commonplace for Democrats.
“Sadly, vile comments like this have become par for the course for the Democrat Party. They’ve become so deranged by President Trump’s victory that celebrating late-term abortion, support for eugenics and even calling for the death of political opponents is becoming their standard operating procedure,” wrote Andy Surabian, Trump Jr.’s spokesman.
“I hope every elected Democrat in the country has the common decency and moral courage to disavow these types of grotesque statements from members of their party,” he added.
