Arizona AG posts video using nunchucks after governor lifts ban

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) was so excited about the state’s recent decision to lift the ban on nunchucks that he posted a video of himself using the martial arts tool.

Brnovich posted the video of himself using the nunchucks on Twitter Monday, where it garnered more than 200,000 views by the following morning.

{mosads}The video shows Brnovich skillfully twirling the nunchucks and exclaiming as he backs away from the camera.

“Clearly, my years of martial arts training paid off. Pulled my old nunchaku out of storage…like riding a bike,” Brnovich wrote, adding the hashtag, “WayOfTheDragon.”

The Associated Press noted, as did several Twitter users responding to the video, that Brnovich’s nunchuck demonstration was technically illegal since the repeal of the state’s ban on the martial arts weapon does not go into effect until 90 days after the legislature adjourns.

A spokesman for Brnovich’s office told the AP that current laws allow demonstrations and that responses to the attorney general’s light-hearted video were generally positive.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) signed a bill last week taking nunchucks off the state’s list of deadly weapons, removing the classification the martial arts tool shared with weapons such as bombs, gun silencers and automatic firearms.
