FBI asking public for tips, videos of Kansas City Super Bowl parade shooting

The FBI is seeking help from the public as it works with Kansas City, Mo., authorities to investigate the deadly shooting that followed a Wednesday celebration for the city’s Super Bowl-winning Chiefs.

“FBI and [Kansas City police] are requesting any videos from the Super Bowl shooting and any video of the shooters attempting to flee the scene,” the federal agency wrote above an online form where tips can be submitted, including any videos or photos.

One person was killed, and at least 20 others — including several children — were injured when gunfire broke out after the team’s victory parade near Union Station.

Three people have been detained in connection with the shooting, and firearms were recovered, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said in an update Wednesday. No suspects have been publicly identified, and authorities have not given details about a possible motive.

Videos and images from the chaotic scene quickly spread across social media platforms after the shooting broke out, showing fans in red Chiefs gear fleeing from the gunfire and a massive law enforcement response.

More than 800 law enforcement officers and at least a million fans were estimated to be present at the event celebrating the team’s back-to-back NFL championships.

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” the Chiefs organization said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City.”
