Syracuse University adds cameras, additional security following anti-Semitic incidents

Law enforcement has increased patrols and camera surveillance at Syracuse University (SU) as an investigation continues into a streak of racist and anti-Semitic incidents on campus, USA Today reported.

The heightened security comes after a “suspicious communication directed to a Syracuse University student organization” was reported on Nov. 26, although police didn’t view it as a physical threat, according to the paper.

SU officials reportedly said last week that any further suspicious incidents will be reported to authorities as the private university tries to prevent copycats.

SU Chancellor Kent Syverud told the university senate two weeks ago that there have been 12 incidents of racist and anti-Semitic graffiti, an incident of verbal assault directed at a female African American student, and reports that students had been “AirDropped” a white supremacist document.
