Vance events cancelled due to approaching Helene

The Trump campaign announced on Wednesday that it would be cancelling two events that Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) was expected to participate in on Thursday in Georgia amid changing conditions around Hurricane Helene in the southeast.

Vance was scheduled to make remarks about the economy in Macon, Ga., and then hold a rally in Flowery Branch, Ga. later that day.

The Trump campaign noted both events would be rescheduled “as soon as possible.”

The National Weather Service noted in an advisory on Wednesday morning that tropical storm and hurricane warnings were in effect in part of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

“Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected across portions of northern Florida and southern Georgia where the core of Helene moves inland,” the advisory noted. “Preparations to protect life and property should be completed by early Thursday since tropical storm conditions are expected to begin within these areas on Thursday.”

Georgia represents a critical battleground state for both campaigns. Trump won Georgia in 2016 but lost the Peach State to President Biden in 2020.

An aggregate of Georgia surveys compiled by Decision Desk HQ show Trump narrowly ahead of Harris at 48.1 percent to 47.6 percent.
