Maryland governor labels Easter Bunny an ‘essential worker’
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) is assuring children across his state that the Easter Bunny is an “essential worker” as some worry closures due to the coronavirus pandemic could postpone his crucial holiday work.
The governor signed an order on Friday making the move official. He then shared a photo of the order on Twitter.
“For the kids out there who may have been concerned, I have some reassuring news: Today I officially proclaimed the Easter Bunny an essential worker in Maryland,” Hogan wrote on Twitter. “He therefore will be able to proceed with his hopping across the state, delivering Easter baskets to Maryland children.”

His move follows New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s recent announcement that the country also deemed the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy as “essential workers” during the outbreak.
“You will be pleased to know that we do consider both the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny to be essential workers,” Ardern said at a press briefing earlier this week.
Hogan has been among the governors nationwide encouraging social distancing guidelines to stay in place until there is more clear evidence that coronavirus diagnoses and deaths are dropping.
