Police report 22 cars outside hospital with slashed tires, including nurses’ vehicles

Police in New York reported 22 vehicles found outside a hospital with slashed tires, some belonging to nurses aiding coronavirus patients.

Overnight nurses from New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., had just received praise for their efforts handling the virus when they discovered the tires of their vehicles had been slashed, according to the Journal News.

Officials from the hospital said they would cover all charges for the damaged vehicles.

“We were shocked to hear of this incident, especially at this time when our employees are working tirelessly and courageously” during the coronavirus pandemic, the officials said in a statement.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Daniel Hall, who was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Authorities said they found a small amount of PCP upon arrest. Hall’s court date is slated for May 18.

Before the incident, dozens of police and fire personnel visited the hospital to offer the workers a round of applause for managing the coronavirus outbreak.

“What our hospital is focusing on today is the beautiful tribute given by our first responders last night,” the hospital said in its statement.
