Connecticut governor urges White House to release CDC reopening guidance: ‘What have you got to hide?’

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D) on Thursday called on the White House to release Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on reopening businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic, asking what the Trump administration has to hide.

“What have you got to hide? I think it would be very helpful for us,” Lamont said to CNN’s John Berman. “Right now, we’re convening internally, our higher ed, our K-12, our small business, our retail, our restaurant groups, trying to figure out the best protocols for reopening. I share that information with [Gov.] Andrew Cuomo [N.Y.] and [Gov.] Charlie Baker [Mass.], because the governors are trying to come up with good solutions as well, but I’d love to hear what the CDC has to say.”

Lamont added that the CDC could have some “interesting protocols they’ve found have worked at other places around the world that we could learn from here.”

The Associated Press reported earlier Thursday that the White House shelved a 17-page document, titled “Guidance for Implementing the Opening Up America Again Framework,” before it could be published last Friday. A CDC official told the AP the guidance would “never see the light of day.”

The document reportedly goes into more detail than the “Opening Up America Again” guidelines the White House released last month. According to the AP, recommendations  include installing sneeze guards at cash registers in businesses such as restaurants and bars and eliminating public food displays like salad bars or buffets.

Administration officials reportedly did not want to release the detailed guidance because it includes specifics on reopening parts of the country that have been affected differently by the virus.
