Portland police officers pursue a crowd of about 200 protesters after dispersing the group from in front of the Multnomah County Sheriffs Office on August. 1, 2020 in Portland, Oregon. Protest actions spread to East Portland on Saturday as federal officers began a phased withdrawal from the more centrally located U.S. courthouse.

A man suspected in the beating of a Portland truck driver who was left bloodied in the streets is now in police custody after turning himself in.

Marquise Love, 25, turned himself into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Friday morning, according to The OregonianHe faces felony accusations of assault, coercion and rioting, and is begin held on $260,000 bail.

Love is suspected of engaging in a group assault that occurred Sunday against a man named Adam Haner after his truck ran into a light pole in downtown Portland.

Haner is currently recovering from multiple injuries suffered during the beating. An online fundraiser has raised more than $136,000

The brutal incident was caught on video and went viral across social media, showing the man police identified as Love punching Haner in the face and knocking him unconscious.

Portland’s elected officials, including Mayor Ted Wheeler, City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty and Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, condemned the attack, The Oregonian reported.

Activists representing the Black Lives Matter demonstrations have condemned the attack, saying the assailants involved threaten the intended message behind the movement, which is meant to raise awareness of systemic racism and police brutality.

Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell thanked the public on Friday for assisting law enforcement with leads about the case.

“I am pleased the suspect in this case turned himself in and appreciate all of the efforts to facilitate this safe resolution,” Lovell said in a statement.
