Arizona Senate Republicans to hold hearing on elections

Arizona Republicans will hold a Senate hearing next week over unfounded claims of election irregularities as the GOP and President Trump try to subvert the results of the election in several battleground states.

The Arizona Senate Judiciary Committee will hold the hearing Monday “to address the concerns over election irregularities,” the Arizona GOP announced in a press release Friday.

Arizona is one of several states where Republicans are filing lawsuits looking to overturn Trump’s loss to President-elect Joe Biden. Biden beat Trump by nearly 10,500 votes in the state, making him the first Democratic presidential nominee to win Arizona since Bill Clinton in 1996.

The lawsuits in the Grand Canyon State have been shot down, and Arizona certified its election results last month.

Trump won Arizona in 2016, and his campaign was adamant that the president would be victorious there again even after tallies showed him trailing. Sen. Martha McSally (R) was also unseated by now-Sen. Mark Kelly (D).

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D) has been adamant that there was no widespread fraud or irregularities that cost Trump the state, and the president’s lawyers have bene unable to present any firm evidence that his defeat there was due to foul play. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) also declined to join a lawsuit led by Texas seeking to overturn the election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin even though a dozen other state attorneys general have signed onto the suit, which the U.S. Supreme Court has since shot down.

Trump has torn into Gov. Doug Ducey (R), an erstwhile ally, saying he and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) “fight harder against us than do the Radical Left Dems. If they were with us, we would have already won both Arizona and Georgia.”
