Man who killed 3 at Jewish sites in Kansas dies in prison
A man who shot and killed three people at a Jewish community center and retirement home in Kansas City in 2014 has reportedly died in prison.
Frazier Glenn Miller Jr. died Monday at El Dorado Correctional Facility. He was serving a sentence for charges including attempted murder, capital murder and assault and firearms charges, according to The Associated Press. He had also been sentenced to death.
Miller’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed with an autopsy, but a spokesperson for the corrections department told AP that preliminary indications point to natural causes.
In 2014, Miller drove from Aurora, Mo., with the intention to kill Jewish people. He attacked William Corporon, 69; and his 14-year-old grandson, Reat Underwood, at a Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kan., before he drove to Village Shalom care center and killed Terri LaManno.
None of Miller’s victims were Jewish.
During his trial, Miller, who was also known as Frazier Glenn Cross Jr., stated that he wanted to kill Jewish people before he died while noting that he had chronic emphysema and did not expect to live long, AP reported. He was 80 years old at the time of his death.
In March of this year, Miller’s attorney argued for his death sentence to be overturned before the Kansas Supreme Court. He told the judge that Miller should not have been allowed to represent himself in his 2014 trial despite his insistence to do so, the news outlet noted.
Miller was a Vietnam War veteran and also founded Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in North Carolina, according to AP.
