Two more dead in Surfside collapse, raising death toll to 20

Two more have been found dead in the Surfside, Fla., building collapse, raising the death toll to 20 with more than 100 still missing.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said at a press conference on Friday two more bodies were found with one being a 7-year-old child of a Miami firefighter.

Two more children were found dead in the debris Wednesday with the rest of the deceased being adults.

The search and rescue efforts resumed Thursday after they were briefly paused due to concerns that part of the building that was still standing was unstable.

Officials said they are working on plans to tear down the remainder of the building while also continuing the search and rescue efforts.

The search that has been going on for more than a week has hit many bumps including the pause in efforts, fires popping up at the site and bad weather.

Florida is bracing for a hurricane that could hit next week which could also slow the teams at the site.

“There’s gonna be a lot of pain and anxiety and suffering and even the need for psychological help in the days and months that follow,” President Biden said while visiting the site. “And so, we’re not going anywhere.”
