Tulane students being sent to Houston for flights home
Students attending Tulane University in Louisiana are set to be evacuated to Houston in order to take flights home after Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc on the state.
The university announced on Monday that students remaining on campus would be taken to Houston by bus after it canceled all in-person instruction through Sept. 12, according to nola.com.
“We are establishing a hub in Houston to provide food and lodging at Tulane’s expense for students until they can get flights home,” university officials told the news outlet.
Students were told to bring no more than two pieces of luggage with them including their laptops and valuables when they travel to Texas, the outlet reported.
The school reportedly said that it planned to carry out online instruction from Sept. 13-Oct. 6 and hopes to have students return to campus for in-person classes after their fall break on Oct. 11.
Class cancellations and the closing of Tulane’s campus come as Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana, causing power outages across the region as well as widespread damage.
