A 13-year-old student was shot at Cummings Elementary School in Memphis, Tenn., on Thursday.
The Memphis Police Department said the 13-year-old male was in critical condition and was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, WREG Memphis reported.
No other injuries were reported from the incident and the suspected shooter, a young male student at the school, is in police custody.
The police say the shooter turned himself in after fleeing the scene in a vehicle, according to the local outlet.
Shelby County Schools put the building on lockdown and transported students to Metropolitan Baptist Church to be picked up by their parents.
Police have searched a home in North Memphis in connection with the investigation.
