Two kids, father hit by car on ‘Walk to School Day’ in DC
Two kids and their father were struck by a car on “Walk to School Day” in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the D.C. Metropolitan Police said in a statement obtained by The Hill that law enforcement responded to a call around 9:20 a.m. ET reporting that two children had been hit by a car.
Police arrived on the scene to find the two children and an adult male who had been hit, and they were transported to a local hospital.
The children were ages 6 and 8, according to a report from The Washington Post, and one child suffered serious injuries.
The father and other child had non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver who hit the three stayed on the scene and that an investigation is underway.
The incident happened on “Walk to School Day,” which occurs the first Wednesday in October annually around the country. The day is held to emphasize the importance of safe, active travel of children to school.
