Almost two-thirds of New York state is fully vaccinated

Almost two-thirds of New York state is fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Saturday.

The data showed 65.3 percent of the total population is fully vaccinated, accounting for 12.7 million residents.

The percentage of those vaccinated above the age of 18 sits at 77.1 percent with 11.9 million people. The percentage of those with one dose out of the whole population is 72 percent.

Certain parts of New York such as New York City have implemented some of the strictest COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the country.

In New York City, a person must show their vaccine card to get into certain venues such as restaurants. The city has also mandated vaccines for certain jobs including public school teachers and police officers.

New York now has the eighth-highest vaccination rate in the country, following behind Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

New York’s vaccination rate is higher than the whole U.S. with only 56.9 percent fully vaccinated. The rate of those with one dose of the vaccine is 65.8 percent in the U.S.

States across the country have taken a different approach with regards to vaccinations with some allowing businesses to implement vaccine mandates to raise numbers while other states have blocked measures to require the coronavirus vaccine.
