Suspect in Idaho mall shooting dies from injuries
The suspect in an Idaho mall shooting has died from his injuries, the Boise Police Department announced on Tuesday.
Jacob Bergquist, who was identified by the Ada County Coroner, died on Tuesday in the hospital. He was the suspect in a mall shooting a day earlier that killed two people and injured four others.
The cause of Bergquist’s death is still under investigation as well as the motive behind the shooting, according to police.
Jo Acker, a 26-year-old security guard, and Roberto Padilla Arguelles, 49 years old, were killed during the shooting.
“Jo you were always kind of loving … you always had such an enormous heart of gold,” Shawna Lee Lannigan, the sister of the security guard, said in a Facebook post, The Associated Press reported. “You were and are and always will be a hero. I love you to the ends of this earth and beyond.”
It is believed Acker was trying to stop the shooter when she was killed.
Four others were injured during the shooting, including a police officer during a shootout with the suspect.
The police have searched Bergquist’s home and are going through social media accounts to try to figure out a motive behind the shooting. Bergquist was not an employee at the mall but did visit a lot.
The police are also working with state and federal authorities “to try to understand anything we can about why this event happened, and why it happened in the location that it did.”
