Connecticut to offer cellphone app for proof-of-vaccination
Connecticut’s government will now let residents use a cellphone app to show their COVID-19 vaccination status, The Associated Press reported.
Gov. Ned Lamont (D) said on Friday the new app will be available for residents at the end of the year, saying the app will give restaurants and stores to determine if restrictions need to be put in place.
The state has not imposed a mask mandate unlike other surrounding jurisdictions.
The new app will include a QR code and will be tied to intro the state’s vaccination database, according to The AP.
“Let them make the right decision in terms of allowing people into their facility,” Lamont said. “Letting them have the information that if a person’s unvaccinated, they’ve got to wear a mask.” Lamont said he does not believe other restrictions need to be put in place.
The Hartford Courant reported that Rhode Island and Massachusetts are also planning to introduce proof of vaccination requirements.
New York’s government has already introduced a proof of vaccination program earlier this year, The AP reported.
