Feds investigating crash on North Las Vegas street that left 9 dead
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the car accident that killed nine people, including four children, in North Las Vegas on Saturday.
Described by one local official as a “mass casualty traffic collision,” the incident occurred when a speeding Dodge Challenger ran a red light. The driver of the Challenger is among those who were killed, while one person remains in critical condition.
The accident is now part of an ongoing investigation being carried out by the NTSB, which said on Twitter it was working in coordination with the North Las Vegas Police Department.
KLAS-TV reported that seven of the nine victims in the crash have been identified by the Clark County Office of the Medical Examiner as Fernando Yeshua Mejia, 5; Adrian Zacarias, 10; Lluvia Daylenn Zacarias, 13; Bryan Axel Zacarias, 15; Gabriel Mejia-Barrera, 23; David Mejia-Barrera, 25; and Jose Zacarias-Caldera, 35.
All the victims were killed by blunt force trauma.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger has been identified as Gary Dean Robinson, 59. The passenger in his car, who was also killed, has been identified as Tanaga Ravel Miller, 46.
Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who perished.”
Overall, 15 people were involved in the crash.
“We have not seen a mass casualty traffic collision like this before,” Alex Cuevas, spokesman for the North Las Vegas Police Department, said shortly after the incident.
