Sanders: Trump should tweet support for Medicare, Social Security

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Sunday that he would like President-elect Donald Trump to send out a tweet saying he will keep his campaign promises not to cut Social Security and Medicare.

“I want Trump to send out a tweet saying he is going to keep his campaign promises,” Sanders told ABC’s “This Week,” in a reference to the programs.

Trump said during the campaign that he would not meddle with Social Security and Medicaid.

{mosads}Incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus last Sunday said he doesn’t think Trump wants to “meddle” with Medicare or Social Security.

“He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn’t want to do,” Priebus said on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”

The president-elect does plan to grow the economy and help “shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations,” Priebus added.

Sanders has recently called on Trump to veto any cuts to the programs.
