Sanders: Not a ‘bad thing’ if Comey resigns
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Sunday that it “would not be a bad thing” if FBI Director James Comey resigned from his role heading the bureau.
“I think he should take a hard look at what he has done, and it would not be a bad thing for the American people if he did step down,” Sanders told ABC’s “This Week.”
Sanders said Comey acted in an “outrageous way” during the presidential campaign, referencing the director’s letter to lawmakers just before the election that the FBI had obtained additional information potentially relevant to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
Comey then said days before the election that no new evidence of wrongdoing had been found.
{mosads}The Department of Justice (DOJ) inspector general announced last week that it will launch an investigation into the FBI’s and DOJ’s conduct leading up to the 2016 elections.
“No one can say ‘this is decisive’ and ‘this is what elected Trump,’ but clearly his behavior during the campaign and what he said in the week or two before the election was unacceptable,” Sanders added on Sunday.
