Sunday shows preview: Aftermath of failed healthcare bill
Opponents and those involved in negotiations over the failed GOP healthcare bill will take to the Sunday show circuit this weekend as President Trump moves on from his first major legislative initiative.
Trump directed Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday to pull the plug on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the GOP plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare, amid Republican divisions over the proposal.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who positioned himself as a staunch opponent of the measure, will appear on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday to discuss the measure.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus that negotiated over the measure with Trump but remained largely opposed to the plan, is also set to talk about the bill on ABC’s “This Week.”
The White House has blamed the bill’s failure on House Democrats, but the AHCA failed to win support among several dozen House Republicans. White House chief of staff Reince Priebus will be on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss.
The shift away from healthcare reform is likely to turn attention in the coming days to ongoing investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and any ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (Calif.), is expected to go on “Face the Nation” on Sunday to talk about future of the investigation.
Schiff is also expected to discuss Chairman Devin Nunes’ (R-Calif.) announcement that he had evidence indicating that the U.S. intelligence community incidentally surveilled members of Trump’s presidential transition team.
Longtime Trump ally Roger Stone is also set to appear on ABC’s “This Week,” after he volunteered on Friday to go before the House Intelligence Committee to push back against questions about his relationship with Russia.
Here’s this week’s full lineup:
ABC’s “This Week”: Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) will be on the show. Also joining will be Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt. Stone will also appear.
