Graham: Left is ‘going insane’ after Trump’s win
Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) in an interview Sunday morning slammed Democrats for opposing Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, saying the “left is going insane after Trump won the election.”
“This has nothing to do with Neil, it has everything to do with the Democratic base and the hard left taking over the Democratic Party,” Graham told Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo.
Graham also ripped into Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), calling him a “destructive force.”
“This all politics with Schumer,” Graham said. “I hope some people care more about this country than party and don’t go where Schumer leads them.”
The South Carolina Republican said 97 percent of Gorsuch’s opinions have been in the majority.
“Five hundred lawyers from the left, right, middle said he’s one of the most talented judges. A Republican president could not have chosen better than Neil Gorsuch,” he added.
{mosads}Graham said Republicans would use the nuclear option allowing a simple majority vote if Democrats attempt to filibuster President Trump’s nominee to the high court.
“Here is what I would tell my Democratic friends: If you can’t find the courage to vote for this man, you are letting the Senate traditions go away, you are letting the country down, and if I have to change the rule to the put this man on the Supreme Court, I will,” Graham said.
“The Democrats changed the rules in 2013 to pack the circuit courts … The Democrats embrace the rules of the Senate when it helps them and change the rules when they want to grab power,” Graham added.
Graham also said that he and other Republicans voted for two of then-President Barack Obama’s “qualified, liberal picks,” but suggested Democrats are not returning the courtesy of considering qualified conservative pick.
