Gore: Paris accord sent ‘powerful signal’ to businesses, nations

Former Vice President Al Gore acknowledged Sunday that even if all the nations in the Paris accord reach their emissions targets, climate change would still be a problem.

“That is correct,” Gore told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.” “However, it sends a very powerful signal to business and industry, and civil society and countries around the world,” Gore said.

Gore, a leading voice on the threats posed by climate change, defended the climate pact and cited the improvements countries such as China and India have made as a result of deal.

{mosads}”And since the Paris agreement was reached, look at what has happened — you talked about China earlier, China has now reduced its emissions four years in a row,” Gore continued. “India is now in a massive shift from coal to solar.”

“The Paris agreement was a successful effort to send the signal ‘this train is leaving the station, everybody on board.’ The U.S. should be on board,” Gore told Wallace, adding that other states and businesses would follow suit if President Trump supported it.

Following Trump’s decision to leave the Paris accord, Gore criticized the move as a “reckless and indefensible action.”

“It undermines America’s standing in the world and threatens to damage humanity’s ability to solve the climate change in time,” Gore said in a statement on Thursday.
