Trump lawyer heads to Sunday shows to launch full-court defense

President Trump’s lawyer will hit the Sunday show circuit this week to launch a full-court defense of the president amid fallout over Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer and others during last year’s campaign.

Trump attorney Jay Sekulow is slated to appear on all five Sunday morning programs amid continued scrutiny of Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and other figures in June 2016.

The meeting was part of a Russian lobbying effort directly connected to three Moscow businessmen, The Hill reported. The figures had reported lobbying on adoption issues related to the Magnitsky Act, a U.S. law reviled by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Media reports have focused on others who attended the meeting after Trump Jr. released an email chain showing eagerness to meet the Russian lawyer, whom an intermediary promised would deliver damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

In the emails, Trump Jr. was told by British entertainment publicist Rob Goldstone that the information was “very high level and sensitive” and was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

President Trump has defended his son, saying that “anybody would have taken the meeting.” But a survey released this week found that 53 percent of Americans thought the meeting was inappropriate.

GOP lawmakers like Sen. Lindsay Graham (S.C.) have condemned the meeting, and ripped Trump Jr. and senior White House aide Jared Kushner for attending.

“That email is disturbing,” Graham said. “I know Donald Trump Jr. is new to politics, I know that Jared Kushner is new to politics, but this is going to require a lot of questions to be asked and answered.”
