Sunday show preview: Trump’s Puerto Rico response in spotlight

President Trump’s response to the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Ruco has been the subject of backlash this week with Democrats, members of the media and some Puerto Rican officials criticizing the federal government’s recovery efforts.

Basic necessities such as food, water, medicine and electricity have been slow to reach the island’s residents, who are trying to recover from the Category 4 storm that slammed the island earlier this month.

{mosads}While Puerto Rico’s Gov. Ricardo Rossello praised the federal government’s response to the disaster, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz issued a desperate plea for help and condemned the federal government’s response to the crisis during on Friday.

“I will do what I never thought I was going to do. I am begging, begging anyone who can hear us to save us from dying. If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency,” Cruz said.

Trump responded to Cruz early on Saturday in a scathing tweet storm, saying the mayor had shown poor leadership in a time of crisis.

Democrats swiftly responded to the president’s comments calling for Trump to apologize to Cruz.

The president’s controversial response to the recovery effort is likely to dominate Washington’s Sunday talk show circuit.{mosads}
