Sunday shows preview: GOP moves toward tax reform

Key Republicans including White House budget director Mick Mulvaney will appear on the Sunday shows as Congress determines the next steps for sending the 2018 fiscal year budget to President Trump’s desk and prepare for tax reform.

{mosads}The Senate narrowly passed a budget resolution earlier this week, with a last-minute amendment adopting technical and procedural language from the House budget passed earlier in October that may expedite the budget’s final passage.

A House GOP source told The Hill earlier this week that the language may allow the House to directly pass the Senate bill without heading to conference committee.

Mulvaney will be joined by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla) on CBS’ “Face The Nation” this week to talk about the GOP’s upcoming plan for tax reform. Mulvaney will also appear on Fox News Sunday, where he will be joined by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

McConnell will appear as well on CNN’s “State Of The Union,” where he will discuss tax reform in the face of criticism from Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, (D-Ohio) the show’s other guest.

Also appearing on Fox News Sunday is White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who this week raised eyebrows in the media when she claimed it was “inappropriate” to question White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, a retired four-star general.

Those comments are expected to be rebuked by Gold Star father Khizr Khan, who will appear on CBS. Earlier this week, Khan attacked President Trump over his treatment of families of fallen service members.

“He does not have the capacity to understand what it takes to serve this nation in harm’s way,” Khan said.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – Sens. Chuck Schumer, (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

CBS’ “Face the Nation” – Mulvaney; Lankford and Gold Star father Khizr Khan.

CNN’s “State of the Union” – Sens. Mitch McConnell, (R-Ky.), and Brown.

Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” – McConnell; Mulvaney; Huckabee Sanders; California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.
