Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said on Sunday that the Democratic Party has struggled to put forth a clear leader because so many people in the party “are trying to position themselves to run for president.”
“I think it’s hard when we are the minority party that we have lots of folks that are leaders and want to be leaders,” she told NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “We have so many people that are trying to position themselves to run for president, I think it’s hard to say who is the leader, and there’s a lot of angst about that.”
“I frankly don’t worry about any of that,” she added. “That’s not something that concerns me right now.”

Speculation has swirled around a number of Democrats regarding potential runs for the White House in 2020. Among those named have been Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Kamala Harris (Calif.), as well as former Vice President Joe Biden.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), while not a member of the Democratic Party, sought its nomination last year and has been suggested as a possible candidate in 2020.
At the same time, some Democrats, like Rep. Seth Moulton (Mass), have questioned the party’s current leaders, particularly House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), and have called to replace the leadership.
