Sunday shows preview: Party leaders hit circuit after Brazile DNC revelation
Revelations from former interim Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman Donna Brazile sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party this week when newly released excerpts of her upcoming book revealed that she discovered evidence that she said showed Hillary Clinton’s campaign fixed the Democratic nomination system in her favor.
Brazile recounts how she had been tasked with probing the DNC after hacked emails suggested the Clinton campaign fixed the nomination in an excerpt from “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House.”
Politico was the first to obtain the excerpt.
{mosads}The former party chairwoman discussed a deal between the Clinton campaign, the DNC and Clinton’s joint fundraising committee that said the campaign would “control the party’s finances, strategy, and all the money raised.”
The agreement was made to financially help the party, which was in significant debt following the 2012 reelection campaign of former President Obama.
NBC later reported that the deal was only related to preparations for the general election.
While the deal was legal, the ethics have been questioned by politicians and political observers from both sides of the aisle.
Another bombshell from Brazile’s book was revealed on Saturday, in which she said she had mulled removing Clinton from the nomination and replacing her with then-Vice President Joe Biden, according to The Washington Post.
The bombshells threaten to the divide the party, tempting some Democrats to re-litigate the contentious 2016 presidential primary as the party prepares for important upcoming races.
The revelations come less than a week before Democrats face off against Republicans in crucial gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, and as Democrats prepare to try and make inroads in the House and Senate in 2018.
The issue will be a major topic of discussion among key Democratic influencers on Washington’s Sunday talk show circuit. Here’s the full lineup:
