Conway: Clinton was ‘treasure trove’ of info on how to win election

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Sunday said the Trump campaign never considered dealing with Russians in the 2016 presidential campaign, arguing former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton already offered enough information on how to win the race.

“Hillary Clinton, as Donna Brazile just pointed out, she was a walking, talking treasure trove of how to beat Hillary Clinton,” Conway told Brian Stelter on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.”

“We never needed to look farther than her,” she continued. “As Donna pointed out, there was this feeling of inevitability and smugness over in Brooklyn that they didn’t have to campaign on the issues, that they didn’t have to campaign hard.”

In an excerpt from her new book, Brazile, a former Democratic National Committee (DNC) interim chairwoman, said she discovered proof the DNC and the Clinton campaign had worked together prior to the general election. She described a memo giving Clinton’s campaign control of the party’s finances and fundraising.

On Sunday, Brazile appeared to backtrack on the implications in her book, saying she found “no evidence” that the primary process was rigged.

Stelter told Conway he thinks viewers recognize she pivots to controversies surrounding Clinton whenever he brings up possible Russian involvement in swaying the 2016 election or other negative stories involving the Trump administration.

“I’d be happy to never talk about the 2016 election again,” Conway said. “The reason we’re still talking about it is because of the DNC, because Hillary Clinton is on a book tour.”
