White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said on “Fox News Sunday” that Chris Wallace’s question about infighting in the White House was a “cheap shot.”
“Some White House senior staff accuse you of guerilla warfare, saying that you sneak around the West Wing and go into the Oval Office and run around policy meetings to personally lobby the president and that, frankly, a number of senior staff were surprised when the president made this announcement on Thursday,” Wallace said during an interview with Navarro on Sunday, referring to President Trump’s recently announced tariffs.
“How do you plea?” Wallace asked.
“I would say that sitting here on Sunday with you, that’s a bit of a cheap shot, that there is no facts and evidence to support that,” Navarro responded.
{mosads}“If I’ve learned anything in the 14 months here in Washington in the White House, it’s that there’s all sorts of malicious leaks that go in that try to hurt us,” he added.
“The culture in the White House now is that if they go after one of us, they go after all of us,” Navarro said.
The exchange between Navarro and Wallace became heated multiple times as Wallace pressed the adviser on his defense of Trump’s tariffs.
Navarro said during the interview that no countries will be exempt from the tariffs.
Trump said last Thursday that he will impose a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum.
A number of foreign nations have said they plan to retaliate if the tariffs are put in place.
