Sunday shows preview: Washington braces for Trump’s Supreme Court pick

Talk of President Trump’s highly anticipated nomination to the Supreme Court will take the main stage on the Sunday show circuit this week ahead of Trump’s expected announcement of Justice Anthony Kennedy’s potential replacement.

The president attempted to drum up enthusiasm for his Monday evening announcement in a tweet on Saturday morning, hyping his “big decision” about the nomination.

Leonard Leo, Trump’s outside adviser on the judicial nomination process will make an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” after previously telling reporters that Trump’s pick likely would not focus on overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that is viewed as a top target by many conservative judicial activists.

“I don’t think at the end of the day it’s about Roe v. Wade, it’s about having judges on the court who are going to interpret the Constitution the way it’s written,” Leo told Fox News. “And part of interpreting the Constitution is taking into account major precedents, and that’s going to happen.”

Other senators appearing on Sunday shows include Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who will appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, (D-Conn.), who will appear alongside Leo on ABC, and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who will appear on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
