Trump meeting with Rosenstein could be delayed further, Sanders says

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested Sunday that President Trump’s meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein could be postponed for a second time amid the uncertainty surrounding Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.

“A date for that hasn’t been set. It could be this week. I could see it pushing back another week given all the other things that are going on with the Supreme Court, but we’ll see,” Sanders said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Sanders said she “wouldn’t be surprised” if the two men discussed additional topics besides reports that Rosenstein proposed secretly recording the president in the spring of 2017 and recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president.

{mosads}Rosenstein has denied the report.

Trump and Rosenstein were originally scheduled to meet last Thursday, but the president postponed the discussion as Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about her allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the 1980s.

Reports surfaced last week that Rosenstein expected to be fired and had offered his resignation to White House chief of staff John Kelly while Trump was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Speculation on Rosenstein’s departure cooled somewhat when Trump told reporters in New York that he would prefer not to fire the deputy attorney general.

“My preference would be to keep him, and to let him finish up,” Trump told reporters in New York, where he was attending the United Nations General Assembly. “I would much prefer keeping Rod Rosenstein.”
