Friends and colleagues of former President George H.W. Bush will join the Sunday news show circuit this week as news networks examine the life and legacy of America’s 41st president.
The 94-year-old Republican died Friday, according to a late-breaking statement released through his son, former President George W. Bush, following his wife Barbara who died in April.
{mosads}In the statement, the Bush family said it was “deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”
Bush, the first incumbent vice president since Martin Van Buren in 1836 to be elected president, served just one term in office before an election defeat to former President Bill Clinton in 1992.
His son, George W. Bush, would later become president as well, while another son Jeb Bush (R) served two terms as Florida’s governor.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served in his son’s administration, will make three appearances on Fox News, NBC and CBS this week to discuss the elder Bush’s legacy, for whom Cheney served as secretary of defense.
Bush’s former secretary of state, James Baker, will appear on every network, while Colin Powell, who was the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Bush 41’s presidency, will appear on ABC as well.
Also making a rare Sunday news show appearance on ABC is Roger Stone, former adviser to the Trump campaign, who is said to be a person of interest in Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation and who saw an associate, Jerome Corsi, claim this week that Mueller’s team had offered him a plea agreement.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), floated by some Democrats in recent days as a potential 2020 presidential contender, will also make an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
